Student of the Quarter

This morning was our 1st quarter recognition of Students of the Quarter.  What a great way to start my Thursday!  Parents and students got to hear from the teachers and staff members that nominated students and the reasons why.  Students received a healthy round of applause, some breakfast, and a certificate.  Each division in our school nominated one student, including the counselors, SIDS, Student Activities and Athletics!   Congrats to the following students:

  • Kevan Casson- Math
  • Thomas Herner- Visual Arts
  • George Brennan- Business Ed
  • Majesty Gunn- English
  • Taylor Varnado- Science
  • Oluwatosin Adeyemi- World Languages

  • Amaris Flores- Student Activities
Will you be nominated for 2nd Quarter??????

Best Meeting of the Day

On Tuesday, I met with Emma Thompson and Erin McGuire regarding a potential OPRF Google App that they are developing in their Computer Apps class.  How cool would it be for us to have an app just for students that would allow you to have all of your favorite info from OPRF in one place?  Emma and Erin- thanks for making my day!  Can't wait to see the final product!

New Teacher Group Discussion

Mr. Bill Young, Special Education Teacher, facilitates a Q&A discussion with our new teachers on Tuesday after school regarding student discipline at OPRF.  Our Student Intervention Directors responded to questions that our new staff members had.  The good news was that the conversation focused on the importance of relationship building and trust, NOT writing referrals:)

Global Glimpse...Do you want to travel abroad?

Calling all Juniors....here is a potential chance for you to travel abroad.  Check out these videos to learn more about Global Glimpse:

We need to have about 100 students nominated by teachers next week. Once students are nominated, we hold a parent meeting, students fill out the application and then we start our 6 afterschool workshops.  One of the workshops is on fundraising that will help all the students pay for their trip.   The cost varies from student to student per their family income.  The minimum is $600 and the max a student would pay is $3800.

Students Presenting to the Faculty

Earlier this week we asked Seniors Will Zimbler, Jahmari Moore, Jay Heininger, and Grace Fox to present to the faculty at our after school meeting about Leadership and Launch, our new freshman mentorship program.  We will have four faculty meetings after school this year so that we can get together and hear about the really cool programs that are going on in the school.  They did an outstanding job!

District Leadership Team Budget Retreat #2

On Tuesday, October 6 Dr. Isoye convened our District Leadership Team to have preliminary discussions regarding potential staffing needs for the 2016-17 school year.  What does that mean?  We were looking at student enrollment projections (we have a report that gives us an idea of how many students will enroll at OPRF in a given year) to determine where we may need to hire new staff.  Mr. Altenburg, our Chief Financial Officer is a heavy hitter in these meetings because it's his responsibility to make sure that we remain within our budget parameters!  We have about 4 of these ALL DAY meetings per year!

What a Time to be Alive! Homecoming 2015

The All Blacks

Our guests from New Zealand (Luke and Ralph) really got a kick out of American Football.  As you can see by their jerseys, they are huge Rugby fans and are representing their national team the All Blacks.  Emily Richardson posed for a quick picture with them during the Homecoming game.
